Drive Encryption Recommendation – VeraCrypt

Estimated read time 2 min read

The article below is a good review of file and drive encryption. If you store files on an external drive or have a usb drive with sensitive or personal information, using an encryption program is a good option. You can even encrypt data partitions on your computer.

For external drives and usb drives especially, which may be subject to theft, the use of a good encryption program is recommended. The article below offers VeraCrypt as one option, and I agree with this recommendation. VeraCrypt is a free open source program that can create encrypted volumes and drives.

One of the more popular drive encryption options is BitLocker. However, as the Proton article points out, there are multiple exploits hackers can use against BitLocker. Also it is a closed source program authored by Microsoft who is a participant in the PRISM program.
