USB Data Blockers

Estimated read time 1 min read

One useful tool for protecting your phone and your pc is called a USB data blocker. Lets start with a bit of background: USB cables contain connections for both power transmission and data transmission. If you plug in a usb cable at an outlet in a public location in order to charge your phone, you could be open to a type of attack called ‘Juice Jacking’. Over that USB connection someone can also launch a data hack, infecting your phone with malware and/or stealing information from your phone.

That’s where a USB data blocker comes in. A USB data blocker connector looks like a regular USB connector, but it has the wires for the data connection removed, it can only provide power transmission, blocking any potential data-based attack on your device.

You can find data blockers with both USB A and USB C connectors for a reasonably affordable price, typically around $10-$15 usd.
